Fable Melbourne offers a sky-high aperitivo hour

Perched on level 13 of the Greek Community Building in the CBD, Fable Melbourne is one of Melbourne’s highest (and newest) rooftop bars. Looking out over Melbourne’s iconic skyline, Fable is a year-round rooftop bar offering a huge list of unique cocktails, beers and wine curated by Alessandro Nardini.

The menu features Mediterranean flavours and focuses on sharing, with plenty of gluten-free and vego options. Featuring huge windows, luxurious booths and a stunning bar adorned with green tiles in the middle of the room, the attention to detail in the design of the venue is present at every corner.

After a big kick-off in late 2021, Fable has expanded its opening times to now offer Aperitivo Time between 3 and 6 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

With sharing at the heart of what Fable does, the aperitivo menu features delicious snacks, cheese plate and charcuterie options, including a bruschetta using house-made focaccia and my personal favourite, a big plate of house-pickled cucumbers, which I’ll be dreaming about for weeks!

Naturally, you’ll want to pair it with a cocktail. There’s a selection of classic cocktails, such as an Amaretto Sour or an Old Fashioned, or refreshing spritzes in huge goblets adorned with fresh garnishes. Try the Hugo Spritz with elderflower, Malfy Limone gin, mint and cava or the Venetian Spritz with Select Aperitivo, Amaro Montenegro, grapefruit and thyme sherbet and cava – all delicious options!

You can, of course, also order from the extensive cocktail or wine list, which is beautifully illustrated and tells a story about the origins of each cocktail.

If you cannot tear yourself away from the views after aperitivo, stay for dinner and order more sharing food such as dolmades with garlic yoghurt, lemon and dill, the burrata with greens, beetroot and toasted rye or a classic beef tartare.

Fable is the perfect venue for a date or a night out with mates. The light-filled space has views of the Eureka Tower, Arts Centre and Bolte Bridge, you can marvel at Melbourne’s stellar skyline. With the addition of aperitivo hour, I couldn’t think of a better place to gather your colleagues for after-work drinks to end the week, or to get your evening started on a Saturday night.

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
