Shakespeare: Tragedies & Comedies

Are you like me and imagine what life could be like if William Shakespeare was obsessed with hip hop music? Or if the Bard himself penned Romeo & Juliet listening to a jazz and classical fusion? Well, if you are like me – and I believe we’re in the majority – for one night only you can immerse yourself in Shakespeare like you’ve never seen it before. Masters of Choreography present Shakespeare: Tragedies & Comedies at the Athenaeum Theatre on Saturday, 14 July.

An Elizabethan dance spectacular for the ages, the two-hour production will feature over 200 performers and artists, reimagining thirteen Shakespeare classic plays, including Macbeth, The Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A union of literature and dance, be dazzled by a contemporary dance interpretation of Antony & Cleopatra; feel enamoured by a jazz- and classical-inspired retelling of Romeo & Juliet; let an elegant ballet rendition of Macbeth awe you; and allow The Comedy of Errors hip hop to get you in the groove.

“We want audiences to be captivated and intrigued, to see the plays presented in a manner that they have never seen, all the while staying true to the story and respecting the words, emotions and vision of the legendary bard, William Shakespeare,” says Masters of Choreography directors, Jennifer and Milo.

Whether you are a Capulet or a Montague, fall in love with Shakespeare’s most memorable plays in a new light. To go, or not to go: that is the question.
