Uncle Drew’s now open for dinner

Uncle Drew Café, one of the north sides most warm and inviting spots to cosy up on a cold winter’s night is serving traditional Italian favourites alongside unique and original recipes.

Lighter meals including grilled artichoke hearts, peppers and zucchinis as well as shared antipasto plates featuring marinated vegetables, smoked caciocavallo, Prosciutto di Levi San Daniele (aged 600 days), fennel & chilli salami and grissini are the perfect start or end to an evening.

What’s even better is the fact that Jonathon Scali and chef Karel Simek, who opened Uncle Drew in 2016 promote and support the use of fresh and local produce, often sourcing their ingredients from the Preston Markets as well as Maria’s Pasta in Carlton North.

Fresh and hearty pasta such as tagliatelle, containing wild slippery jacks mushrooms, porcini cream, lemon zest, parsley and ricotta salata or a serve of Uncle Drew’s house-made gnocchi will get your taste buds tingling. Other beloved mains available include the applewood smoked tuna and salad niçoise and porchetta (slow cooked pork belly).

The devilishly delightful desserts on offer one simply cannot refuse, include the drunken tiramisu and mouth-watering chocolate ganache.

The variety of beverages available will make anyone and everyone thirsty. From ‘Calmer Sutra Artisan Tea’ to relax and enjoy, Mork Specialty Hot Chocolate’ to treat yourself, and/or even Spiced Rum to warm you up. An accompanying cocktail with delicious food at the end of a long week is an absolute must, especially since, in collaboration with Melbourne’s legendary Waterslide Bar team, the crew at Uncle Drew’s have devised a unique and enticing cocktail list that includes the ‘Mexican Breakfast’ (Tequila Tromba, peach schnapps and English breakfast tea) and the ‘Espresso Drewtini’ (Mr Black Coffee Liquor, Dukes Cold Brew Coffee and Archie Rose Vodka).

Whether it be a night out with the family, a long overdue catch up with friends or a cheeky date night, Uncle Drew’s Café has you sorted with something for everyone! So what are you waiting for?

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
