The Yarra is quite the drinking precinct this summer with the opening of a flurry of floating bars buoyed along its banks. Supafish is the latest boozy barge serving slinging cocktails, delicious Mexican eats and all-round cool vibes. The very neon, very pink 38-metre bar is just a stone’s throw away from Ponyfish Island and will be open for business until Monday, 26 February 2018.
The 300-capacity bar is the latest collaboration between long-time friends and business partners Andrew Makinnon, from The Taboo Group, and Grant Smillie, well-known DJ turned hospitality mogul.
‘It was very important for us at Taboo to create something that would really push the envelope on what might be achievable on a pop-up as we always like to challenge ourselves when it comes to creative execution,’ says co-founder Mackinnon.
So, for those who haven’t noticed this oceanic jewel – are you blind? It’s a fluoro pink head with glowing eyes and neon ribs! Once inside, you will be transported to a futuristic world and be taken aback by the bright and bold neo-Tokyo-inspired fit out.
Supafish has teamed up with Matt Lane and Nick Peters – the culinary geniuses behind Mamasita and Hotel Jesus –to curate an all-day Mexican grazing menu. The must-haves include the Ceviche (fans of Mamasita will agree!), and the mouth-watering Huitlacoche and El Pstor quesadillas. The drinks menu is equally impressive and you can’t say no to thirst-quenching Supafish Kombucha Cocktail, packed with the probiotic kick needed to survive the heat.
Perfect for end-of-year celebrations, long lunches or late-night rendezvous, let Supafish swim upstream to capture your summertime felicity and revel in all the neon beauty.
