European Night Market

It’s August. We don’t know how we got here already, but we do know that it’s damn cold! But we’re Melburnians, we’re resilient. The cold cannot prevent us from attending food-themed festivals. And I’ve got one for you in a laneway – what’s cooler than that?! So grab your puffa, head to Madame Brussels Lane and step into the European Night Market.
Now in its fourth year, the European Night Market is bigger and better than ever before. Paying homage to the laneway’s salacious past, the market is a slice of European decadence in this once-upon-a-time brothel. The laneway will be transformed, with artist Holly-Anne Buck (Collagism) creating projected digital artwork using vintage imagery from the area. Ambience will set by DJ Cobbler (laneway cobbler by day, DJ by night), with added European flavour provided by a roaming piano according player.
Everyone knows that the best way to get warm is to source sustenance. First up, get in line for some mulled wine! Baum’s Mulled Wine Emporium is there peddling aromatic mulled wine and hot cider, chasing away those winter blues from the inside out. Next, get your fill of pierogi (Polish dumplings) from Eastern Bloc, German sausages from Bavarian Bangers or a market staple gozleme from Goz City. Finish off with a freshly torched crème brûlée from the Brûlée Cart or freshly baked pretzel from Bretzel Biz.
The Madame Brussels Lane European Night Market is on Friday evenings during August, from 4pm until 10.30pm. Entry is free, so kick-off the weekend in the right way – Euro-style!
