Team A Kitchen

Residents of Melbourne’s north-east suburbs rejoice — you no longer have to venture beyond Zone 2 for your weekend brunch fix! Sister-café of Miss Marie in Rosanna, the A Team Kitchen is breathing new life into a tired suburban shopping strip.

Highlights of their all day menu include the A Team’s south-of-the-border take on scrambled eggs, where the manchego cheese and avocado balances the heat of chipotle and chilli (unless you add the jalapenos. Then you’re on your own). The breakfast salad offers an abundance of all the good stuff – pairing brown rice with sweet potato, kale and chard, and of course, topped with a poached egg. Just make sure you say yes when offered a double-cheese hash brown on the side (these homemade balls of warm, cheesy goodness are a must-try addition to any of the savoury dishes).

As a hotcake aficionado, I pity the fool who skips past the A Team’s interpretation of this Melbourne brunch staple. The strawberry and ricotta hotcake is a truly Instagram worthy plate, topped with a Nutella mascarpone, berries and toasted coconut shards. As well as having all your brunch classics covered, they also have some choice burgers — but let’s be honest, we’ll all be going there for the hotcakes — and coffee snobs won’t be able to fault the Five Senses dark horse blend.

Designed by Biasol, the award-winning studio behind the delightful Kitty Burns and Punchbowl Canteen, A Team’s décor perfectly matches the fresh and modern menu. It’s a killer combo of peach subway tile and grey marble surfaces with ash wood fittings and plenty of greenery. The attention to detail in the design (and not the mention the service) brings A Team Kitchen to the next level of brunching venues.

If you’re looking for somewhere new to try, A Team Kitchen is a must-visit brunch stop along the Hurstbridge line, sucka.
