Now in its fifth year, the Transitions Film Festival captures the spirit of the planet in the 21st Century, showcasing the challenges, cutting-edge ideas and mega-trends that define our way of living. Each documentary explores the critical issues that demand our generation’s attention – climate change, overpopulation, environmental problems and living sustainably – and, hopefully, inspire and inform audiences to make a positive difference.
Power to Change: The Energy Rebellion takes a look at Germany’s development – or lack thereof – in abandoning fossil fuels and other traditional sources of energy. The 2016 documentary weaves together real-life accounts of people who have taken action at the local level and corporations who are leading the energy rebellion, resulting in a rewarding and fulfilling cinematic experience.
One standout debate is the possibility of entire towns living off 100% renewable energy resources – utilizing solar and wind power – which is already a reality for several towns in northern Germany. Another issue is the idea of living in a collaborative community, teasing the idea that owning a personal car should be obsolete making way for ‘community’ vehicles.
Although the film presents a Euro-centric view, it will be enough to get you thinking about your own backyard. What does the energy revolution mean for you? Check out Power to Change: The Energy Rebellion to find out!
