The Scandinavian Film Festival reaches new heights in cinematic excellence this year. With a programme as spectacular as the wonder of the Northern Lights, escape the cold and take comfort in the uber-chic coolness that is all things Nordic.

Screening at selected Palace Cinemas – Como, Westgarth and Brighton Bay – the Melbournian leg of the festival ends on Wednesday July 27 and Milk Bar Magazine joins the celebration by offering you, our devoted readers, 10 FREE double passes to take your significant other, friend or Tinder date.

Welcome to Norway is a witty black comedy film centred on the refugee crisis currently affecting Europe. The winner of the 2016 Göteborg Film Festival – ‘Audience Award’ – Director Rune Denstad Langlo brings some levity to a highly topical issue and promises to put a smile on your face in ways you may not expect.

Denmark goes back to a darker time with its film, Land of Mine, which takes place immediately after the surrender of Nazi Germany. It follows a group of German soldiers who are tasked with the dangerous and life-threatening mission of detonating hidden weapons lying on the Danish coast. The tale is complex, riveting and gritty – watch the powerful story unfold and discover why this film has collected accolades all over the world.

If you seek something more light-hearted, A Man Called Ove – the fifth most popular film in Swedish cinema history – is charming and uplifting, while As it is in Heaven showcases community spirit through a mediocre-at-best choir overcoming obstacles, which makes for a unique and hilarious film.

All you need to do is send an email to matt@milkbarmag.com with your full name and address to register your interest.

So grab a Carlsberg and go north this July – the Scandinavian Film Festival is sure to dazzle you.
