Saké Flinders Lane

Earlier this year, Milk Bar Bag explored its spicy side and got the opportunity to publicise the opening of a brand new venture for the famous chain Saké on Flinders Lane. Last Thursday, we got a chance to get inside and become immersed in this Japanese journey.

The fifth of the brands portfolio in Australia, Flinders Line has been coveted as an energetic and luxurious addition, with a menu focusing on freshness and innovation; an extensive variety of seafood, succulent meats and colourful vegetables scatter the menu, with both classic and modern touches. Vegetarian, gluten free and ‘no raw’ dining requests can also be taken care of and don’t forget to leave a little room for one of the contemporary, mouth-watering desserts. The highlight is definitely in it the core ingredients – Saké produces its own miso, smokes its soy sauce on site and even creates its own tofu.

The entrance electrifies, with an enormous 50 seater natural stone dining counter which overlooks the kitchen beckoning patrons in. Modelled by the team behind Saké Double Bay in Sydney, nothing is out of place – every nook and every cranny has been considered, adding to the overall excitement the venue seems to provoke. The entire area is lit to set a wistful ambience, with dark wood floors and strategic shadows honing in on your romantic side.

Sittings can be booked for two hours, in either the outdoor seating, communal dining area or at the sushi counter. Your tastebuds can be tickled alongside your nightlife, with the kitchen and bar open between Monday – Wednesday 11.00am – 12.00am, Thursday 11.00am – 3.00am and Sunday 11.00am – 12.00am.

Saké are keeping the action moving with Saké Jr, which opens at 555 Bourke Street in late May. Catering to the quick and casual, Jr will specialise in serving buns, rice bowls and sushi rolls, as well as some token Saké menu items in a grab and go capacity.

Melbournians, you’re never going to be left without an option for one of your favourite international cuisines again

Somewhere Else video sings of summer

It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
