Bodymod

In a not too distant future, in a planet not unlike ours, the stark result of fast fashion and quick-fix plastic surgery has flourished into a body-mod dystopia. Such an existence doesn’t seem unfeasible; enter Hinny Tran with BODYMOD for another interpretation , where this world leaps from the imagination to the screen.
Hinny Tran’s latest filmic venture, short film BODYMOD explores a world that is almost as bleak as what we’ve just pictured. But don’t run away just yet.
BODYMOD explores the anxiety of creativity and the growing reality of transhumanism – we’ve all seen Robocop, you know the story.
Following the immense success of Fred Hates Fashion, Berlin Fashion Film Festival has invited Hinny Tran to contribute a new film. Hinny revealed that the idea of body-modification, designer “droids” and transhumanism was an idea already bouncing around in his head.
The film explores this new world set in the future under the power of Gideon, Gamma and Genesis ruling over trendoids – like androids one actor explained. Gideon, Gamma and Genesis undergo a procedure, designing their own bodies. But the novelty soon wears off after they realise that their decision is irreversible.
The smorgasbord of anatomy is a little too tantalisng and the ramifications are, well, diabolic. Picture Genesis crystalline faced as a disco-ball dance hall mishap whilst trendoids in body cages and chainmail pulse en masse below.
The films wardrobe features designs from local and emerging designers and recent graduates, with some actors playing the roles in their own designs.
An enticingly desolate and captivating look at the desire for both power and perfection.
The short film will air during the Berlin Fashion Film Festival in July 2014.
