Emerging Writers’ Festival

Did you know writing is bad for your health? No, really. Writing is usually a solitary, sedentary activity. When on a roll, it’s easy to lose track of time. Sentences can translate into hours, with hardly any exercise or conversation, spare the occasional coffee or cuppa tea.

Mercifully the Emerging Writers’ Festival gives writers a chance to step outside of their usual environment. The festival is celebrating its 10th birthday this year, with a special focus on writing and well-being. Part of the festival will be held at The Abbotsford Convent, allowing festival goers a chance to smell the proverbial roses. The program also includes events combining writing and yoga, meditation and even dance. For those who usually suffer hand cramps and leg stiffness, this is the festival for you.

Newly minted EWF director Sam Twyford-Moore is bringing his enthusiasm for the printed and electronic work to this year’s program. As a writer, Sam recognises that writing can be intense and anti-social. This led him to steer the festival in the direction of health and wellness, with this year’s EWF providing the opportunity for writers be more social, make connections and have cultural conversations.

Writers of all stages, ages and genres are welcome.

The Emerging Writers’ Festival runs from May 23 – June 2.
