Lipsynch – Canadian Opera/Theatre

Describing Robert Lepage’s Lipsynch, as a theatrical event, is more than just good marketing. Sure, it’s a neat way to package a show that runs for nine hours, that traces a narrative through seven decades, that blends opera and theatre, and that is performed in four languages.
But the performance looks to be an event in the lives of its audience as well; a major theatrical experience that promises to stake out your theatre-watching life into the pre- and post-Lipsynch periods.
Robert Lepage is Canadian theatre’s answer to… well, everyone; he’s a virtuosic theatre-maker with equal facility as a playwright, actor, and director. Canvassing the lives of its nine central characters, Lipsynch is a tour de force as it spirals slowly out from its central, tragic moment.
