Most geeks go a little weak at the knees at the mere mention of Comic-con, the annual event that started in San Diego that celebrates everything pop culture – from comics to films, games and toys – in short – everything that is rad.
This weekend Melbourne hosts its first Comic-con, and it looks like being a doozy. OK, I assume it’s going to be a doozy, because their crummy website has more holes in it that The Amazing Spiderman plot. But you can pretty much be assured they’ll be a lot of people in costumes of varying accomplishment, comic books and zombies. Plus the requisite C-grade celebrities that turn a buck peddling the comic-con circuit. It’s awesome.
WHEN: Sat 30 June – Sun 1 July
WHERE: Melbourne Exhibition Centre
Dare to be proudly different this weekend and enjoy a flick!
Milk Bar Mag reviewed Land of Mine, a heartbreakingly powerful film at the tail end of World War 2.
Rules for Living is a marvellous and hilarious comedy looking at the murky waters of family Christmas.
Bail Out's plans to help out Melbourne's disadvantaged youth.
Snap away with The Fox Darkroom, a mecca for photography aficionados to learn all about the traditional methods of black and white photography.
It almost sounds like the premise of a reality TV show: pile a bunch of artists in a bus for seven days, send them across Mexico and see what happens.
