The Cybec Readings at MTC

Reykjavik, written by award winning Australian playwright Paul Galloway and directed by Matt Scholten is the first in a series of three readings presented as works in progress by the MTC this week.

Sponsored by the Cybec Foundation these readings are ‘designed to road-test new plays to aid and enrich their progress’. As the first through the gate, Reykjavik explores the 1972 international Chess Championship that saw Bobby Fisher go to head to head with reigning world champion Boris Spasky. It was billed the ‘match of the century.’

The audience by its mere attendance is part of the development process, proving a litmus test for works in their infancy. As such I’m reluctant to go into any detail about the content of the readings, the performance because the genius of nights like this does not lie in the finished product but in the transparency of the process.

If you have any interest in the process of how a work goes from script to stage there are two more readings left this week:

November 23rd, Happy Ending by Melissa Reeves, directed by Aidan Fennessy
November 24th, Eating Alone by by Robert Reid, directed by Adena Jacobs

Both plays @ 7pm, MTC Theatre, Lawler Studio.
Tickets Adult $10 (or 3 plays for $24)* / Under 30s $5
Bookings The MTC Theatre Box Office 8688 0800, mtc.com.au or at the door
