The League Of Honest Coffee

Posted by

The League of Honest Coffee is the latest venture from Marinus Jansen, owner of The Brunswick East Project, a cafe widely regarded as one of the best (and friendliest) coffee joints in town. Opening in the CBD last week, this new cafe occupies a larger space than its bustling Brunswick sister, with large windows, an open plan set-up and separate area to buy house-roasted Padre beans, grinders, syphons and all manner of coffee geek gadgets.

With staff from the Brunswick cafe and Jansen’s other South Melbourne Market stall at the helm, the League’s service is friendly, relaxed and delivers. Marinus tells us he choose the name because he wanted it to reflect the ethos of the cafe: good, honest coffee and service.

Behind the counter, baristas use brand-spanking new Slayer Espresso Machines to whip up cracking good espressos and lattes, while those wanting to broaden their caffeine horizons might want to try filtered coffee served in a Chemex. If espresso is like a shot of whiskey, the Chemex produces coffee more like a glass of wine.

Keeping the emphasis on coffee, food options are kept simple but sweet with baked goodies from Noisette Bakery and the signature muffins that were such a hit at The Brunswick East Project.

As a new third-wave cafe opens in town, the CBD is fast becoming the go-to place for the most cutting-edge coffee in Melbourne. With its friendly staff and dedication to quality, The League Of Honest Coffee looks set to win over a new legion of fans.
