Not an Exercise in Marketing
The Fitzroy Market happens on the first Saturday of each month.  Not driven by profits or trend status, this grassroots event provides a fun, welcoming atmosphere for all comers. The market consists of car boot stalls, food stalls, a kids craft area and space for musicians and performers. Sounds good to us. Gold coin entry.
When:
Saturday, 5 March. 10:00AM – 2:00PM
Where:
Fitzroy Primary School, cnr Napier and Chapel Streets, Fitzroy

Brunswick Festival
Moreland City Council recently introduced a law prohibiting the consumption and possession of alcohol on Sydney Road for the duration of the Sydney Road Street Party…so don’t even think about walking home down Sydney Road with a closed bottle of wine from the IGA this Sunday. Why not instead check out the abundance of entertainment on offer?  My picks include Dream Puppets, Melbourne Ukelele Kollective, Doowlla Drummers & Belly Dance, Plastic Palace Alice.
When:
Sunday, 6 March 6. 12:00PM – 7:00PM
Where:
Sydney Road, between Union and Victoria St, Brunswick

Looking for love but pressed for time? As part of Big Gay Week (actual title) The Wheeler Centre, off the back of their hugely successful heterosexual literary speed dating, is holding homosexual/lesbian events. So bring along your favourite Armistead Maupin or Susan Sontag and “come and talk books…with intent”. Both events are being hosted by Jane Clifton.  You’re bound to have a lot of fun.
Men Seeking Men – 7:00PM – 8:30PM, Thursday 3 March
Women Seeking Women 7:00PM – 8:30PM, Friday 4 March
